The Institute of the Caucasus Studies of ANAS releases 2023 report

The Institute of Caucasus  Studies of ANAS released its report on the results of its scientific and scientific-organizational activities in 2023. Director of the Institute, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Musa Gasimli gave a wide speech. Emphasizing that in 2023, 14 research works on 2 scientific directions, 3 problems, 5 topics were conducted at the institute. The problems studied cover the  internal political and socio-economic problems of the Caucasian states, intergovernmental relations in the Caucasus, regional politics of foreign countries. He said that in connection with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated September 29, 2022 on declaring 2023 as the "Heydar Aliyev Year" in the Republic of Azerbaijan, on April 27, 2023, a round table on the Caucasus countries (Russia, Türkiye, Georgia, Iran) leaders’ opinions about Haydar Aliyev was held. 

On May 3, 2023, a republican scientific conference was held on "Haydar Aliyev: Peace and Cooperation Issues in the Caucasus.". A book entitled "Haydar Aliyev and Caucasus Problems" was published by ANAS Corresponding Member, Professor Musa Gasimli, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associate Professor Elnur Kalbizade, Doctor of Philosophy in History Gunel Musayeva, Doctor of Philosophy in Political Sciences Samira Habibbeyli.

On November 1, 2023, an international scientific conference in connection with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the measures related to the declaration of the city of Shusha as the "Cultural Capital of the Turkic World" in 2023" ” was held. Scientists and researchers from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Russia, Italy, Canada and Ukraine gave reports at this conference. In connection with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated September 28, 2023 on the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Academician Ziya Bunyadov, a scientific seminar on "South Caucasus in the works of Academician Ziya Bunyadov" was held on November 27, 2023.

On October 19, 2023, a republican scientific conference on "South Caucasus: current situation and prospects", a round table on "Republic of Türkiye and the Caucasus: history and modernity" on October 27, 2023, in connection with the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, a scientific seminar was held on November 16, 2023, in connection with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Research and “Azerbaijan Research and Study” Society.

During the reporting year, institute colleagues published 2 books in Türkiye, 1 book in Uzbekistan, 8 books and 1 teaching tool, 160 articles and theses in Azerbaijan and 100 articles on different websites and newspapers. 62 of them have been published abroad — Türkiye, Spain, Russia, USA, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, UAE and Cyprus. Additionally, two articles (R. Dadashova -1, G. Musayeva -1) have been published journals with impact factor. 

Scientists and researchers from Türkiye, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Great Britain, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico and other countries have referred to the works of institute employees 53 times (M. Gasimli – 30, R. Dadashova – 6, V. Omerov – 2, E. Kalbizade – 10, L. Mirzazade – 2, N. Mammadova – 1, K. Salayev – 2). 

M. Gasimli's h-index on Google Scholar Scientific metrics database is H-10. As a whole, scientists have referred to his works 300 times from 54 countries around the world.  During the reporting year, the institute presented two important scientific results. A book entitled "Heydar Aliyev and Caucasus Problems" was published by the corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Musa Gasimli, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associate Professor Elnur Kalbizade, Doctor of Philosophy in History Gunel Musayeva, Doctor of Philosophy in Political Sciences Samira Habibbeyli. Also, in the reporting year, the monograph "The oil factor in Great Britain’s Azerbaijan policy (1991-2022)" by Doctor of Philosophy in History Gunel Musayeva was published. The fourth edition of the Scientific-theoretical magazine “Caucasus Studies” included in two international indexes (SAJI, Citefactor) by Corresponding member of ANAS, editor-in-chief Professor M. Gasimli and Doctor of Philosophy in History G. Musayeva   was published in Azerbaijani, Russian and English. 

The Institute's website www.caucasusstudies.az received 4,630 views during the year, mainly from Azerbaijan, USA, China, Germany, and Türkiye. During the year, the www.jcs.az website of the scientific-theoretical magazine "Caucasian Studies" had 2,200 views. The first five are Azerbaijan, Türkiye, France, USA, and Russia.

Corresponding member of ANAS, professor Gorkhmaz Imanov attended the meeting. He got acquainted with the exhibition of the institute's publications and highly appreciated the work done.
