Head of Department

Gasim Hajiyev Ahad. Doctor of historical sciences, professor Gasim Hajiyev was born in 1950 in Hajalli village of Barda region.

• In 1970-1974, he graduated from the History Faculty of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute (now ADPU).
• In 1984, he was admitted to the post-graduate course of the Institute of History of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences and graduated in 1987.
• In 1990, he defended his candidate's thesis at the specialized defense Council of Kemerovo State University and received a Candidate of Historical Sciences degree.
• In 2006, he defended his dissertation "History of Barda (III century BC - XVIII century)" at the Defense Council of Institute of History of ANAS and received the degree of doctor of historical sciences.
• From 1974 to 1983, he worked as a history teacher and deputy director for training and education in Hajalli village school of Barda region.
• From 1987 to 1990, he worked as a senior laboratory assistant and a junior researcher in the Department of Archeology and Ethnography of the Institute of History.
• In 1990-1997, he worked as a researcher, senior researcher and leading researcher in the Department of Archeology and Ethnography of the Institute of History.
• From 1997 to 2003, he worked as a leading researcher, deputy head of the department at the Institute of History named after A.A. Bakikhanov of ANAS.
• From 2003 to 2017, he worked as the head of the "History of Karabakh" department of the Institute of History named after A.A. Bakikhanov of ANAS.
• Since January 2018, he has been appointed as the head of the Department of Armenian Studies of the Institute of the Caucasus Studies of  ANAS.
• Currently, he works as the head of the department History of the Caucasus (from ancient times to the 20th century) of the Institute of the Caucasus Studies of ANAS. 

Scientific activity:

• He is the author of 5 monographs, 4 books, 1 textbook, 1 educational program and more than 110 scientific articles. In the cities of different countries - Derbend, Tbilisi, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, South Sakhalin, Ankara, Van, Erzurum, Tehran, Tabriz, Aleppo, etc. participated in held scientific conferences and scientific researches. Since 1992, he has lectured on the history of Azerbaijan, the history of international relations, the history of the Turkic peoples, and the history of the Caucasus peoples in various higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan.
